Google have received the biggest GDPR fine to date for ‘lack of transparency, inadequate information and lack of valid consent regarding ads personalisation’. The French Regulator judged that people had not been ‘sufficiently informed’ due to information being diluted over several documents, making it impossible to access without ‘5 or 6 actions’.
Further to this, Google had denied their users valid consent by having option boxes pre-ticked, something that clearly disregards GDPR rules.
The regulator commented that it was Google’s ‘utmost responsibility to comply with the obligations on the matter’.
