We regularly advise clients on the benefits of having a Lasting Power of Attorney and always invite the attorneys to come along to the meeting to speak to us or to approach us by telephone before signing the document.

Figures from the Office of the Public Guardian have been released recent showing that last year there were 1,729 investigations into the actions of attorneys and deputies, an increase of 40% from the previous year.  In the same period an ‘online submission’ method has been introduced.  Unfortunately, many families are applying themselves for Lasting Power of Attorney as a result.

Making an LPA without expert advice leaves people at risk from attorneys making mistakes and potentially financial abuse from attorneys, which could then result in further costs to rectify this later on.  We can advise on the powers that Attorneys have, the protections in place for the Donors and ensure all possible options have been considered to maintain the best protection for our clients.
